The issue with electricity

An alarming survey about the ignorance of bangaloreans on electricity. The survey sample was on close to 400 people, but still the results are shocking.

These days there’s a regular power cut for 2 hours. I am happy that for my home its at 9-to-10 (morning and evening). Had it been 7-8 bath before the office hours would have been a concern. 8-9 would fall within the dinner time.

The root cause for the power cuts arises due to power deficit. Against the available 27 million units, bangalore has consumption of 33 million units. A major reason for this is that, people are rich enough to pay a little extra. For a majority of people at home, few hundred Rupees is not a big deal. (A Movie in theaters costs much more than a decent 500 Rs. for a family.) For a few, the monthly electricity bill is nothing compared to the money spent in those 3 hours!!! For a few power consumption in the offices does not go out of their pockets and hence they are not bothered.

Don’t you think, it would make a much better impact if every one clearly understands that a unit of electricity spent here, would mean some one who is in desperate need, in some far off village, would not be able to get it.? And, electricity saved here, would mean someone who needs it, gets it?

But I guess, this would remain as it is. It will just keep on going. A sign of a developing country. India is still a developing country. Still a lot of effort would be needed to take it at par with the developed nations.
